I loved football as a kid. I knew all the players and I had a ton of football cards. I had like six copies of this guy Rockne Freitas from the Lions, and I was always trying to pawn him off on my friends in trades, but nobody else wanted multiple copies of Rockne Freitas either.
In the early 70s, the Niners had a good identity. John Brodie was a top QB. They had two Washingtons (Vic and Gene, not to be confused with the other Gene Washington from the Vikings), and an electric kick returner named Bruce Taylor (a BU grad no less). But my favorite guy, based solely on his name, was a lineman named Woody Peoples. Even now his name makes me smile. Not sure why. It's just fantastic. Woody Peoples.
